An important change is coming related to information that must be included on claims you submit for services provided to our members with Blue Cross Community Health PlansSM.
What’s changing: No later than Feb. 1, 2026, you should begin filing claims for members with BCCHP using the Medicaid recipient identification number instead of the subscriber ID number for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois.
Details: The Medicaid RIN is a unique 9-digit number assigned to each person who receives benefits from the Illinois Department of Human Services. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services requires inclusion of the RIN on Medicaid claims for tracking and processing.
Where to find the RIN: Look for the Medicaid ID on the member’s ID card for BCBSIL. See the Blue Cross Community Health Plans Manual for sample ID cards.
What’s not changing: This change applies only to claim submissions for BCCHP. It doesn’t affect other transactions and isn’t applicable to claims submitted for members with Blue Cross Community MMAI (Medicare-Medicaid Plan)SM.
